- Marvel: this character is dead
- Marvel: totally dead
- Marvel: definitely
- Marvel: how dare you suggest otherwise
- Marvel: ...lol jk
Yeeeeeeeah, but let’s realize that this is Garrett talking. Garrett, who is clearly a massive asshole and who doesn’t respect women at all. He calls Victoria Hand “Vic” repeatedly. He seems pretty amused that Raina is upset about the whole Clairvoyant thing and calls her “Flowers.” He wants Skye shot as a source of pain for Coulson. He basically views all the women in the story as expendable tools he can use and discard.
So, yeah, is Garrett degrading Natasha’s ability? Absolutely. But is the show itself by its nature being sexist? No. The character, who is a sexist dick, is being a sexist dick. No one else is endorsing the idea that Grant did better than Natasha, only Garrett.
In fact, Phil’d probably laugh until he felt nauseous, and May’d kick him in the junk.
And remember: the views of a character don’t necessarily represent the views of those writing the character. We’d like media a whole lot less if there was never a badguy (and Garrett is THE WORST.)
I really hope Garrett dies at the hands of a woman.
I would really like Hand to not be dead (doubtful) and her be the one to end Garrett. Alternatively, Raina could do it. Because him calling her Flowers made me want to kick him in the junk.
My vote’s on Raina, her “sudden but inevitable betrayal” aka defecting to the side of the angels has been pretty well telegraphed. And frankly I’m looking forward to that more than to the equally-inevitable “Skye wins Grant back over to the light with her ~pure love~” or whatever.
Unless Raina dies sacrificing herself. Or worse, dies uselessly, like the scientist in Iron Man 3. Then I’ll be pissed.
Sadly, the more I think about it, the more likely that seems. :\
HOW DOES POPCORN EVEN DO THAT THING
HERE I SHOW YOU THE THING
this is the most majestic thing i have ever seen in my entire life
it’s like a ballet
To add a little science to the ballet, popcorn kernels have a little droplet of water in them. The microwave heats the water until it turns into a gas and thus expands, placing pressure on the kernel shell until it’s too much and the shell bursts all at once, causing the beauty you see above. :)
Winter Soldier: Ugh, the feels. SO MANY FEELS.
SHIELD: I’ve mostly gotten past the initial reaction of “WHAT. WHAT EVEN JUST HAPPENED.” and now tentatively find the plot twist interesting. Depending on what they do with it down the road, of course. (Fun story, was talking about SHIELD with various people at the comic shop, asked one family if they’d seen this week’s ep yet, mom said, “I think so?” and I was like, “NO. If you’d seen it, you’d KNOW. THERE WOULD BE SCREAMING.” Sure enough, dad confirmed that they had not yet seen it. :P )
Captain Marvel: Kelly Sue Deconnick, I <3 you. I about died with this issue. XD. (Okay, okay, I can’t resist one spoiler: CHEWIE V. ROCKET, ROUND 1 FIGHT!)
Camp Nano: I am plugging along fairly well! Nearly all of my WC so far is on the Paladin fic, but it’s such fun I can’t bring myself to feel bad. Especially when writing daily is still something I’m trying to work myself back into. And I’m making the ‘odd’ discovery that trying to write in the morning before work at the very least primes me to write more throughout the day. (I am rather proud of myself for getting my daily WC and then some before letting myself on tumblr tonight. ^.^ ) Best (at least most amusing) line this week: “Please don’t tell me I can only perform miracles with people who turn me on, that could get really really awkward…”
Yoga: Is glorious and wonderful. I’m going to try to get in the habit of going twice a week or at least more than once a week rather than less, because I feel so much better afterwards.
Adulting: meh. It has its perks, but there are things I could definitely do without. Like car registration. And tickets when you forget to do said registration. >.<
I think that’s pretty much it for me this week. I was going to write more commentary about the movie and show, but I think I’d rather focus on my own fic. (Though if anyone has their own takes, I’ll gladly comment on your replies…)
